James went to visit The Speed Art Museum in Louisville, Kentucky last week to meet with Charles Venable (Director) and Suzanne Weaver (Curator) to talk about how the GMF can work with The Speed on future exhibitions and future loans. They are in the midst of starting construction on a new contemporary wing designed by L.A. firm wHY Achitecture.
The Museum is adjacent to the University of Louisville which brings a great energy and life to the area.
There is a lot going on in Louisville with their music scene and independent coffee shops and record stores, also there is an interesting group of artists doing some cool things. It has an East Coast feel to it with a Southern influence. The best of both worlds! Louisville has one of the largest historic preservation districts in the nation too.
There is also a cool hotel called 21c. Its an art hotel and they collect and exhibit their collection throughout the hotel. They have amazing vintage stores there as well.
If you are a Curator, Museum or Foundation interested in loaning works from our extensive collection of British art please contact James Cope here at the GMF.

The Speed extension will be a fantastic addition to the city and much needed.
