MTV RE:DEFINE – Dan Witz
Dan Witz, born 1957, Chicago, IL, attended Cooper Union in New York City’s East Village. In 1982 he received an NEA grant and in 1992 and 2000 fellowships from the New York Foundation for the Arts.
His first book, “The Birds of Manhattan” was published in 1983 by Skinny Books. In 2010, a monograph, “Dan Witz, In Plain View, 30 Years of Artworks Illegal and Otherwise,” was published by Gingko Press. Solo exhibitions include Semaphore Gallery NY (1985,1986), Clementine Gallery (1996), StolenSpace London (2007), DFN Gallery NY (2003-5,6,7,8,10). Carmichael Gallery, L.A. (2009), White Walls, SF 2011, and Jonathan Levine Gallery 2011.
Dan Witz’s art will be exhibited at the Goss-Michael Foundation from Sept. 16 – 23 for the MTV RE:DEFINE event. His work along with 29 other works of international artist – including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gerard Rancinan, Sir Peter Blake – will be auctioned off at a VIP reception on Saturday, Sept. 24. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Staying Alive Foundation which encourages, energizes and empowers young people who are involved in HIV and AIDS awareness, education and prevention campaigns.
