MTV RE:DEFINE – Benjamin Shine

Benjamin Shine studied fashion design at Central St. Martins in London. In 2003 he set up his creative studio, where materials, techniques and constructional ideas inform his multidisciplinary approach.

Evolving from his work in fashion, fabric has become one of Benjamin’s most recognized mediums to date. His series of high profile portraits, constructed from singe lengths of pleated tulle or materials relating to the subject, are poignant in conception and highly skilled in their unique construction.

Benjamin’s work has attracted a range of clients encompassing fashion labels, product and interior manufacturers, international arts and design institutions such as The Crafts Council, UK and The New York Museum of Arts and Design. Global brands include Barclays Wealth, Deutsche Bank, Coca-Cola and Google.

To date, Benjamin has won the Red Dot Design Award, The Enterprising Young Brit Award and The Courvoisier Future 500 Art & Design Award.

Benjamin Shine’s art will be exhibited at the Goss-Michael Foundation from Sept. 16 – 23 for the MTV RE:DEFINE event. His work along with 29 other works of international artist – including Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin, Gerard Rancinan, Sir Peter Blake – will be auctioned off at a VIP reception on Saturday, Sept. 24. One hundred percent of the proceeds will benefit the Staying Alive Foundation which encourages, energizes and empowers young people who are involved in HIV and AIDS awareness, education and prevention campaigns. For those unable to attend the event, absentee bids will also be accepted including via telephone – please visit www.mtvredefine.com for more information on how to bid.
